DANCEHALL
Alia Lux’s dance journey began when she was a little girl. She trained in ballet, tap , and jazz until she was 15 and was often in productions and performances that combined singing and dancing.
When it comes to Dancehall, Alia has been immersed in and influenced by Jamaican culture for the majority of her life through her diverse upbringing. Being raised and schooled into the Rastafarian lifestyle at a young age through family influence, Alia listened to mostly “conscious” Dancehall artists throughout her childhood, but always kept up with the hottest, current Dancehall artists, trends and dances. Alia experienced Dancehall very authentically as she traveled back and forth to Jamaica often and her first real Dancehall party was a street party in Jamaica in her early 20s. Alia started learning dances in the street parties and decided she wanted to learn more knowledge about the dances, creators, and history of the culture and she began training with some of the best Dancehall dancers and ambassadors of Jamaica.
Alia has always been passionate about making sure Jamaican dancers get credit and support for the global influence they create. In 2017 she wrote a grant that allowed her to train with and allocate funding towards the Xpressionx Family in Kingston, JA. She also used part of the grant to become certified in Latonya Stylez, Stylish Moves, which is Latonya’s personal brand and style influenced by all female Dancehall. Alia has choreographed performances, performed on stage, and performed in music videos in both Jamaica and America.
Alia currently teaches classes in Dancehall staying very true to the Jamaican culture and aesthetic. She is also available for private or group lessons, special events, and performances. For a more in depth bio of Alia please request with the contact form here.
